Bijan Thornycroft
Creator Notes
My comic is about a knight who finds himself traveling through time, where he discovers his opponents, the caveman. I chose this art style because it is how I have always drawn as an Artist. I chose this story not necessarily because it was deep or profound, but because it is constantly entertaining and progressing.
My process for this comic was essentially to develop a plot revolving around a single knight. I am quite proud of the consistency in the technique and quality of the content drawn in my comic. For my next comic, I want to actually have a developed plot-line to actually make the story engaging.
Comic Reviews
When reading Bijan's comic, we (Sharon and Alyssa) were impressed at the good artwork and comic layout that was easy to follow and understand. Plus, the preview pic was attention-grabbing. The knight's huge sword resting on his back reminded us of Ichigo in the manga Bleach, but the story itself was far from it. We really liked the first few panels because we felt they were a good introduction to the story. We also noticed that Bijan didn't really use words to propel the story forward; in most parts, the story was just told through pictures, which was pretty effective. Some places were a bit confusing because of the lack of explanation, but given the short amount of time in which we had to complete the comic, it was still very well done. We look forward to seeing more well-drawn and picture-dependent drawings or comics from him in the future.

As I first looked at the comic, I was immediately fascinated by the detail of the artwork. I think that the realistic, non-"cartoony" artwork created a more serious mood than most comics I've seen. I particularly enjoyed the point in this work where a caveman sacrifices his life for a small flower. I suppose his martyrdom suggests the preservation of what is truly hallowed. The medium of the comic was also well-utilized. There were many parts where only artwork was used to tell the story, and it still made sense. Thornycroft also did well in displaying intensity in some of the fight sequences. The intensity, I believe, immersed me more and more into the story, since I like good visuals. I look forward to this artist further developing stronger plot elements to convey the meaning of his characters.
