Carson Badger
Creator Notes
My comic was about a battle of good and evil and animals who have super powers form an alliance to stop the evil Satan who has captured their prophet Santa. The story is told as the heroes embark on their adventures to Yugoslavia to fight off Satan's army. The heroes join powers in the end to form an ice dragon (Satan's weakness) to defeat him and bring Santa back home. My panel layout depended on what was going on in the story. If i really wanted to show time (as the heroes traveled to Santa's tree) i made a longer panel but when i wanted to show facial experssions, i did a close up panel. The major theme in my story is definitely good vs. evil and good will always prosper. The heroes seem defeated after their prophet is taken but the fight for justice and get him back home. Also, you are stronger as a group then an individual. Readers see this when the heroes fail to defeat Satan by themselves but when they join up, they beat him easily.
I wanted to use animals in my story, so I created these characters then i got the idea to make them have super powers. After developing a super power for each and distinct features (capes and crowns) i thought of a funny good vs evil. Because satan and santa use the same letters, i got the idea to have them as central points of conflict. After this smaller details came through like having Satans army be a bunch of zombies. I'm most proud of the comedy that is potrayed in this comic. I was able to accomplish my original goal, to have a funny comic, yet keep it original. I'm glad that readers thought the comic was funny too. Im also proud of my ability to use close up panels, something that i did not know i could use effectively before the class. The one thing i wish i could improve would be my artwork. There are times where i wanted to make a better picture but my level of talent would not let me do so (the burning tree). But i know with time my art will get better as i saw from the beginning of this class to the end.
Comic Review
I reviewed Carson's comic. The first thing that came to my head when reading this comic was the thick lines and intense drawings that Carson had done of the animals. i really liked the intensity that he portrayed with the facial expressions. As I read farther I really liked how the animals were all together fighting for one cause, to kill satan and save santa. Outside of being ridiculously funny this is clearly a comic because of the intense drawings that show the emotions of each character. I would like to see more similar work from carson and possibly even some manga?
