Last look at daddy’s childhood home
This trip was full of visits to past residences, etc. This place was cool because it used to be this westernized rowhouse compound, so it’s got this cool window decorations, etc. It has smells that I associate with home.

nanxiang railroad yard
This is the Past Workplace. We got an exclusive tour of the inner workings of a railroad yard. The US needs to use railroads more.

yes, yes, traditional chinese garden
went to two traditional Chinese gardens. Kinda lame-o ones, though.

Me and my maternal grandparentals
Aww… don’t they look cute on their tombstone? They were moved to this really swanky place last year. My paternal grandfather’s in a less-swank place down the road.

visiting the old hometown
This is where my grandmother grew up. Obligatory photo of a really archy bridge. This bridge is archier than other bridges

new yuckiness
Oh, in Changzhou they have this new faux-Spring/Autumn city that they’re building, completely inaccurately. It is filled with stores and restaurants. It would have been cool if 1) they were more historically accurate, and 2) handed out period costumes to wear upon entry. But as it is, it’s just uber-lame

the real deal
But the real deal isn’t much better. It’s three concentric moats that measure out exactly to be 3, 5, and 7 li in circumference. Problem is, it’s just kinda left out there to wilderness itself. :(
