Chinese Mythology
You're not required to have a thorough grasp of Chinese mythology to enjoy Strings of Fate. However, in-between drooling over Tochi's bishies and flailing in excitement from the cool plot-line you might happen to wonder, "How much of this is based on 'real' mythology?"
Here I'm just presenting my impression of Chinese mythology, gleaned from my memory of a few novels I read way back in 2nd grade. Please excuse my limited knowledge and the fact that everything is off the top of my head. If you have any complaints, questions, etc, bug me. I'd love to hear from you. If there's something about Chinese mythology that you've been dying to know, feel free to ask me! I can't promise a definitive answer, but I would definitely try my best!
